Strength

Learn more about strength and how to improve this skill using our expert curated exercises.

The strength of your muscles and bones is important for keeping you upright and moving. It is also essential to work on building strength in order to promote bone health. There are a number of different ways to increase your strength, but resistance training and weight-bearing exercises have been proven to be the best for building bone.

Resistance training includes exercises that allow your body to move against some type of weight such as a dumbbell, resistance band or the weight of your body. Weight-bearing exercises are exercises where you work against gravity. Walking, running, hiking, dancing, and gardening are great examples. Performing a push-up is also weight-bearing through the hands, wrists and arms. Both of these types of exercise build strength in your muscles and bones, making them key for people with osteoporosis.
